My next book, is an industrial and social history of Dane Mills Bosley, where I served my engineering apprenticeship, between 1959 & 1966.
The two mills, located in the small Cheshire village of Bosley, date back to the mid eighteenth century, when they were constructed by the famous industrialist, Charles Roe and his partners.
I have very fond memories of my employment at Dane Mills, and I wished to capture the culture of the place, by detailing some stories about a number of my fellow workers.
There is an overview of the history of the mills leading to my time there, and an account of the plant and machinery in operation in the 1960s. Many of the capital equipment manufacturers of that period are no longer in business, or they have relocated their manfacturing facilities off shore. I wanted to record their details, as part of our industrial heritage.
I have managed to list the names of the majority of mill workers during my time, as well as the occupants of the mill cottages, located close by each of the two mills.
The book is aimed at those who appreciate reading social history as well as enthusiasts of engineering and manufacturing processes of a by gone era.
The book is due to be released on 21st June 2012.
